Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) began in the 1940′s and continues to be refined, changed, and manipulated every decade for the last 65 years. Although some contraindications, such as women with breast, ovarian or uterine cancer may not allow women to be candidates for HRT, many doctors feel that the benefits outweigh the risks.
Hormones are tiny, chemical messengers continuously secreted into the bloodstream by endocrine glands to regulate activities of vital organs. Hormones stimulate a multitude of life-giving processes throughout the body, which maintain health, harmony, growth, healing, and repair. The best-known hormone is insulin, which is secreted by the pancreas. Before development of the production and administration of insulin, many people died as a result of diabetes or suffered from severe debilitating illnesses. Once scientists were able to synthesize insulin, the severe effects associated with diabetes were reversed.
Genetic engineering has now enabled endocrinologists to synthesize all the natural hormones found in our bodies. This significant advancement in the ability to synthesize our hormones has lead endocrinology research into correcting the deficiency of hormones that contributes to our aging process. The endocrine system is responsible for the regulation of the body’s temperature, sexual desires, growth, healing, aging, and immune system. The endocrine system also allows the central nervous system to communicate with every cell in the body. Hormone deficiencies affect all cells in the body and result in degenerative changes. However, replenishing hormones to an optimal level reverses many of the unfavorable effects that begin to appear as we age. Some of these hormones include: Testosterone, DHEA, Progesterone, Estrogen, Pregnenolone, and Thyroid hormone.
Almost every woman and man above the age of 30 years old can be prescribed a specific program, based upon a thorough evaluation, including family history, medical history, lifestyle analysis, blood tests, physical examinations, and other specific diagnostic tests. With a specific combination of hormone modulation including Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA, optimal nutrition, and regular exercise, women and men are not obligated to suffer the effects of aging.
